Smoothie time!

Class 4 have been learning about healthy eating. As part of this we made fruit smoothies to sell to KS2 on Funky Fruit Friday. Earlier in the week we performed persuasive scripts to the school in collective worship. In total we raised £26.80, which will be donated to Edukid.

The Great Easter Egg Hunt

Easter Bunny has been to visit St Helen's leaving a trail of eggs behind him. Family Groups went out to different areas to find an Easter egg each. Happy Easter to everyone. Yes and I was told I had to put on the ears and the nose!

Yoda talk

Class 1 have been changing the order of words in sentences today. We have been putting the adverb in different places. It helped when we talked like Yoda.

Class 4 runs a marathon (and a bit)

As part of the school's attempt to run a mathathon, for sports relief, class 4 has managed to run 31 miles!! I was very impressed with the children's perseverance.

Sport Relief Bake Off

A huge thank you to all of the children who entered the Bake Off and of course to the parents and carers for their support with this. All of the entries were fantastic and much admired by staff and children. Two adults and three y6 pupils had the enviable task of sampling and judging the 32 entries. The scores are in and the KS1 and 2 'MasterBakers' will be announced on Monday. A number of parents commented on how much the children enjoyed the challenge; we certainly enjoyed eating the tasty cakes. A total of £81.50 was raised for Sport Relief, yippee.

Sport relief marathon

Classes have been out running today for sports relief. Collectively we were hoping to run a 26 mile marathon. However, the 26 mile target has already been smashed and we have two classes still to run this afternoon. Class one alone ran 300 laps of the playground, which is equivalent to 20 miles.
How many miles will the school have run altogether by the end of the day?

Air resistance in Class 6

Investigating air resistance in our science topic on forces, we have devised our own investigation based on balloons, parachutes or paper aeroplanes. We have devised a question to investigate, made predictions, decided which factors to change and which we would need to keep the same. The next step is to carry it out and analyse our results. Let's wait and see what happens next.
Let me show you how to make an aerodynamic paper aeroplane

Whacky Racers

Today, Class 2 have been continuing their

exploration into forces, including thrust, friction, gravity and air resistance. We built on last week's "talk science" session by building rocket race tracks using string and straws and set ourselves challenges about how far or fast we could make a balloon travel. We used so much scientific language, and ended up talking about lots of things that you would never believe a year 2 could understand! Lots of us surprised ourselves with our scientific thinking, let alone Mrs Northcott! As well as thinking like scientists and engineers, we also worked amazingly well as a team, listening to each other, taking turns and sharing ideas which made for a truly vibrant learning environment. Watch this space tomorrow for more fantastic pictures and the children's own blog about  what they did and what they learned ....
