Creating a storm in music and movement y6

What a fantastic morning we had. Boys and girls split up and separately designed movement and sounds using their bodies to create the tempest. They went from calm to storm. They then presented their work to the other group. The children will perform in assembly next week. We have videod both pieces which will be available to watch on school ipad.

Y6 The Tempest - Creating a word map for the island

Today we worked collaboratively in groups, using our imagination to create an island that the shipwrecked sailors have landed on. Every step we took on the island, we added to our word map. We then escorted another group around our island whilst they were blindfolded and described the island to them using our word maps. This was to build up our skills in visualising and describing when telling a story.

Designing our own forces investigations Y6

Today we designed and carried out our own forces investigation. We had to decide on a question to investigate, make predictions, decide on variables, what we would measure and then carry out the investigation. Questions were raised such as ' will the amount of air in a ballon affect the distance it will travel? Will the angle of the ramp affect the distance the car will travel? Which material will be best to make a parachute stay in the air the longest?' It is great to se the scientists at work.

The Tempest and Science in Class 6

Today we have been investigating water resistance with the challenge to find out which shape of boat will hold the most cargo before sinking. We worked in groups to design and make three boats. We discussed which factors would have to be the same in order to ensure a fair test. Loading the boats with cargo, we discovered whether our predictions were correct or not. We recorded our results in the form of a graph and discussed our conclusions.
