Y7 Tea Party

Today we welcomed back the children that left the school in July. They had a good look around the school and couldn't believe how small it now looks. They miss the cosy, friendly classrooms but say they enjoy the independence and challenge of secondary school. We ate cake and had a good catch up. Thank you for coming back to see us. And remember, if any of you become rich and famous, I do expect you to visit me in the old folks home!

Family Groups and Children in Need

Today the superheroes arrived; the bakers, the entertainers, the challengers, the costumed wonders. Thank you for your support in our fundraising. We all enjoyed the day.

Class 6 The Tempest

Today we began to explore Shakespeare's The Tempest by building a ship which is caught in a storm caused by Prospero, the rightful Duke of Milan. His brother and friend are aboard the ship. As well as building   the ship and creating a storm, the children asked  such insightful questions:
Does Prospero know who is aboard the ship?
Why are Prospero and Miranda on the island?
Why does Prospero think he is the rightful Duke of Milan?
Why is Miranda upset about the storm?
Who is Caliban?
We used Shakespeare's words from the play to speak aloud during the storm scene.

Ground Force Day 2

Thank you, thank you, thank you. To the parents, governors, friends, children and volunteers from the Halifax. What a morning we have had. We have cleaned the pond, weeded and filled the raised beds with compost, pruned trees, located bird and mouse boxes, started a robust bug hotel and planted 400 trees. What a difference lots of help can make. Thank you to all of our volunteers especially Mr S who is coming back tomorrow to finish the hotel and Phil for the woodpile.

Mummifying a tomato in Y6

Today we have been mummifying tomatoes as we couldn't get any human volunteers! We discussed the science behind it with words like evaporation, absorption and saturation being used. We will be weighing our tomato over the next few weeks to record the change in water content and have predicted the results of the investigation. Half of the class think it will rot, a quarter think it will dry out and the others are not sure yet.
I forgot to take photos as we were too involved in the mummification process. Somewhere in the salt is  Tutty the Tomato Pharoah. The fresh tomato is a control to see the difference when mummified and when not.

Class 6 making fossils

As part of our topic on Time Team, we investigated how fossils are formed. Those children who were with us last year had to lead the investigations and teach the other children. They did a great job.

Y6 exploring apparatus

For the first session of gymnastics we decided to get out the gymnastics apparatus to explore what we could do with it and the different ways we can use our bodies.
