Space Lab

The Space Lab was in the hall today to teach the children all about space. We learned about the orbit and rotation of the moon and were treated to a view of the night sky. The presentation included a look at the different constellations around the earth. Very exciting!

Making catapults Class 6

As part of our science topic on forces, we built catapults today and investigated the forces involved in firing our ammunition. We also devised our own questions to investigate with a focus on recognising and controlling variables.
One pupil took the initiative to make a crossbow at home over half term and we were able to fire it in school today. Next, air and water resistance. So boats and planes and parachutes and ....... We love science.

Budding Journalists

This term, Class 6 have the opportunity to choose a subject for their news report. To get us started, we looked at the work of our journalist in residence, Mr Andrews, who has been writing news reports for  55 years! The children interviewed him, asking him many probing questions. The children were amazed by the shorthand used to write reports. I am sure many of you have noticed his latest news report in the Journal all about Ground Force Day. You may want to admire the gorgeous teacher in the photograph, (no comments please!).

On Tuesday, Class 3 enjoyed a French afternoon with Mrs Barrs. The children visited 'Mrs Barrs' French shop' where they practiced their French vocabulary, greeting her and asked for the items of food they would like. They also explained what foods they liked and disliked in French! The children really enjoyed trying croissants, pain au chocolat, olives, crisps, carrots and various different fruits, all popular in France.

The children also had a look at some French books. They chose their favourite book and told the group about it and why they had chosen it.

Death of a dynasty...

Class 2 have been thinking about what could have caused the extinction of the dinosaurs, based on what we have learned about dinosaurs' characteristics, behaviours and habitats as well as what we know about animals at risk of extinction now. We all had different theories as to what it was that eventually killed off the dinosaurs and this afternoon, we recreated live 3D interactive scenes to show what their final moments could have looked like!
Was it a volcano??
Did a new ice age finish them off?

Was it an asteroid shower?
Was it an earthquake?
What do you think???
