Our first butterfly

The first butterfly from Class One's caterpillars has emerged this morning. It is looking healthy and has some sugared water and fruit to eat while it waits for its brothers and sisters to emerge.

Keeping Healthy

In Class 5 we have decided to turn Healthy Living Week into our topic for this half term. We started off really well with our very healthy residential trip to St.George's House, where we carried out lots of very healthy activities. Now we're back in class, we are learning about how to keep healthy through eating a balanced diet and taking regular exercise. We are also learning about the heart, lungs and circulatory system; our pulse and breathing rates and the effects of eating too much salt. Watch this space for more news on our Keeping Healthy topic!

Ascension Collective Worship

Lovely Mrs Tanton told the story of Jesus' ascension, helped by the talented y6. The children looked up as the balloon was released, remembering the ascension of Christ.

Fruit tasting and drawing

Continuing on from 'healthy living' week last week, Class 3 drew and tasted some unusual fruits this morning. Many of the children hadn't tried a Sharon fruit, passion fruit, papaya, pomegranate, lychee and physalis before; we really enjoyed them! We came up with some fantastic adjectives to describe the look and taste of the fruits. We also did some careful sketches of the fruit.

Police visit to Class 3

On Wednesday, Class 3 had a visit from the local Police Community Support Officer John McGovern. He came to talk to us about his role as a police officer as well as reminding us about road and bike safety. We asked him lots of questions and we even had the opportunity to try on some of the uniform!

Outdoor Space Development

Just a few pictures to show the development of the outside space so far. It is making such a difference to the look of the school already and the children have got wonderful spaces to explore and learn.
Coming up soon..... An outdoor classroom is being developed under the school and a summer house for small groups work.
Thank you to all involved especially Mr Garrett and Mrs Jarrett

Watch this space.....this is where the summer house is being erected

Scarecrows

Today class one have been designing and building scarecrows. Most were designed to look like children, a scary sight for birds! And one group decided to make one to look like a 'creeper' from Minecraft (because they are really frightening!)
They look amazing and should keep our seeds from being munched by the birds.

Formal debates Class 6

As part of our literacy focus on balanced arguments, we held debates today with the class taking the roles of chairperson and spokespeople for and against. The debates were 'Every job should have the same wages' and 'wealthy nations should share the wealth with poorer nations'. The debates were excellent with children really having to challenge themselves through having to voice an opinion different from their own, keeping control of themselves during the debate and for the chairperson to remain neutral but in control! What a learning experience.

A selection of pics...

All the children are sleeping soundly after another busy day of fun. I thought I'd spend a few minutes posting a selection of photos from this week...
