Mummifying a tomato in Y6

Today we have been mummifying tomatoes as we couldn't get any human volunteers! We discussed the science behind it with words like evaporation, absorption and saturation being used. We will be weighing our tomato over the next few weeks to record the change in water content and have predicted the results of the investigation. Half of the class think it will rot, a quarter think it will dry out and the others are not sure yet.
I forgot to take photos as we were too involved in the mummification process. Somewhere in the salt is  Tutty the Tomato Pharoah. The fresh tomato is a control to see the difference when mummified and when not.
